The power of Rest: Why Taking a Break is better than Powering Through.

As we dive into this new week, I want to highlight something incredibly important: when you're feeling under the weather, your top priority should be rest—and plenty of it.

Why Pushing Through Illness is Not The Best Idea

It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of powering through a cold, flu, or that general sense of exhaustion. Maybe you’ve got deadlines, commitments, or just don’t want to miss out. But here’s the truth—your body needs time to heal, and ignoring that need only prolongs your recovery.

Here’s why forcing yourself to keep going can backfire:

  1. Your Immune System Needs Energy to Fight BackWhen you rest, your body can channel its energy into combating whatever bug is dragging you down. Without sufficient rest, your immune system is spread too thin, making it harder for your body to recover.

  2. It Prevents Health Complications - Ignoring the signs your body is sending can lead to more serious health issues later on. Pushing through might seem like a shortcut now, but it often results in setbacks that nobody has time for.

  3. Rest Improves Mental Clarity - Your brain needs downtime too. Taking a break not only helps your body recover but also sharpens your mind, so you can return to your routine feeling more focused and effective.

  4. You Deserve Rest—It's a Necessity, Not a Luxury - Rest isn’t a reward; it’s a fundamental part of maintaining your well-being. By recharging your body, mind, and energy, you’re ensuring that you can come back stronger than before.

My Personal Experience with Rest

Just last week, I took my own advice. I allowed myself a couple of early nights, skipped my usual bootcamp, upped my hydration, and focused on nourishing my body with the energy it needed. And let me tell you—I’m so grateful I did. The difference in how I felt afterward was night and day.

Give Yourself Permission to Rest

So, if you’re feeling off, do yourself a favour: cancel those plans, take that nap, and let your body do what it needs to heal. Don’t feel guilty about it—rest is a critical part of the recovery process. The quicker you recover, the sooner you can get back to being your best self.

Take care of yourself this week. Rest up when you need it, and remember—it’s all part of staying healthy.

Sending healing vibes,

Claire
