My Top 5 Postpartum Tips for New Moms: As a Women’s Health Nutritionist with Lived Experience.

As a Women’s Health Nutritionist & Mum

Navigating postpartum life can be overwhelming, but with the right approach, you can make it manageable and even enjoyable.

Let’s be real not every day will be a great day but here are my top five tips to help you through this time and no matter what kind of a day it is, you can still use these tips:

1. Focus on the 1%

In the early days, much of your life feels beyond your control. Instead of stressing over what you can’t manage, zero in on what you can. Maybe today, you can drink a couple of extra glasses of water, make a bit more dinner to have leftovers for lunch, or choose to rest instead of doing the laundry.

What's the one small thing you can do today that aligns with the direction you want to go?

2. Simplify Your Food

Making meals doesn’t have to be a chore. Embrace simplicity with:

  • Smoothies

  • Pre-chopped or frozen fruits and vegetables

  • Canned foods

  • Nutrient-dense snacks

  • Simplified recipes

  • Asking for help with meal prep

  • Pre-made proteins

  • Online grocery shopping

These shortcuts can save you time and ensure you’re still getting the nutrients you need.

3. Invest in Yourself - REMEMBER YOU ARE WORTHY!

You are absolutely worthy of investment. Whether it’s hiring a nutritionist, scheduling a mommy MOT (postpartum check-up with a physiotherapist), or treating yourself to new clothes, remember that your recovery is just as important as your pregnancy. You’ve been through a lot, and you matter.

4. Start from Where You Are

Life with a newborn means less sleep, more responsibilities, and a lot more laundry. Don’t compare your current capabilities to what you could do pre-baby. Begin from where you are right now and build from there. Small, manageable steps are key.

5. Remember It Takes Time

Recovery is a journey, not a sprint. It can take up to two years (or MORE) for mothers to feel fully themselves again. Give yourself grace and patience. With time, you’ll regain your strength, passion for food, and a sense of self. Trust the process, and remember, you’re doing an amazing job.
